Le film Ecrit dans le ciel est sorti en 1954. John Wayne y jouait un pilote d'avion charismatique parvenant à sauver son engin et ses occupants d'un péril imminent. Dix ans plus tard, le même avion que celui du film, N4726V, entreprenait le même trajet au-dessus de l'océan Pacifique, entre Hawaï et San Francisco, seulement cette fois il allait disparaître et ne jamais être retrouvé. Le "remake" du film hollywoodien n'a pas connu la même fin heureuse.
L'oeuvre N4726V superpose ces deux événements. La bande son du film est spatialisée dans un modèle 3D de l'avion. La fiction stéréotypée suit son cours tandis que la caméra flotte indéfiniment en apesanteur, faisant écho au statut en suspens des passagers ayant disparu.

The High and the Mighty was released in 1954. It featured John Wayne as a charismatic pilot successfully flying his airplane through hazardous events over the Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and San Francisco. Ten years later, the same aircraft that can be seen in the movie, N4726V, undertook the exact same journey only this time it disappeared over the ocean never to be found. The "remake" of the movie didn't enjoy the same happy ending.
In N4726V both events are conflated. The movie soundtrack is spatialized within a 3D model of the missing aircraft. The stereotypical fiction unfolds while the camera endlessly floats in the virtual space, echoing the unsettled status of the real people that went missing.
